The team are supporting a campaign called It’s In The Bag run by Share the Dignity, an organisation which aims to provide homeless and at risk women nationally with sanitary products to allow them a sense of dignity at a time when they need it most.
It just goes to show the growing power of Social Media, as Big Blue Digital Digital Strategist and Co-Founder, Leanne O’Sullivan, found as she stumbled upon the Share the Dignity page on Instagram.
Leanne said the past 12 months had seen some much needed practical effort, increased media awareness and leadership from the Prime Minister focussed on the disgraceful state of violence against women.
As a result of this, Share the Dignity have stepped up to drive the campaign to provide the sanitary products to homeless shelters and domestic violence refuges for women in need, which unfortunately would be in high demand during the festive season.
“At Christmas time, it can seem to be so much about money,” Leanne said.
“However, when you don’t have a lot of money, you so desperately want to be just like everyone else and buy presents for children and people, spending money you don’t have.”
“You want to give to your children and family - what other people take for granted. Simple gifts at Christmas time,” she said.
Leanne said women often put themselves last, making sure they give to all others first.
According to Share the Dignity, the products required for It’s In The Bag were often the last to be donated but the first to be needed.
“When you are fleeing from abuse, are on the street or couch surfing these necessities often become luxuries.”
Leanne and the Big Blue Digital team are calling for the ladies (and gentlemen) of Dubbo to get on board and donate a bag full of products before Friday, December 11.
What do you need to do?
Maybe buy a few nice things too - i.e.Lipgloss
Emery Boards/Nail File
Perhaps include a little Christmas card in there too.
Drop it off at a collection point - locally at Dubbo at the Big Blue Digital Office in BlueRidge Business Park, or the Dubbo Neighbourhood Centre - nationally, visit the Share the Dignity website for more details.
Please remember not to include pharmaceuticals ( ie panadol ) food, alcohol or razors.
So this Christmas, why not help others Share The Dignity and join the It’s In The Bag campaign. You can make a difference to one woman this Christmas and it will mean the world to her.
